Macks Aviation Photography need your help. The Lightning Preservation Group (LPG), is a group of enthusiasts based at Bruntingthorpe airfield Nr Leicester. They are dedicated to maintaining two of the last few remaining English Electric (BAC) LIGHTNING aircraft in a fully airworthy condition.


One of these aircraft is No 11(F) Sqn Lightning F Mk 6 XR728/JS", Air Cdre John Spencer's aircraft when he was Gp Capt OC RAF Binbrook

The LPG hold Regular Open Days throughout the summer during which both LIGHTNING F MK 6 aircraft perform runs down the 3000 metre long runway at speeds just short of liftoff, with their two Rolls Royce AVON MK 302 engines operating at full reheat.

The Lightning Preservation Group (LPG) are also currently in the process of raising funds to re-erect the RAF Wattisham QRA (Quick Reaction Alert) Sheds as a permanent hangar for our 2 Lightnings, and will also serve as a museum. £50,000 is needed to accomplish this aim.This fund currently stands at around £32,000. Re-erection work is well underway

Now more than ever, they need YOUR support NOW in order to be able to complete this project. The "Q"shed, once complete, will form a unique museum of everything Lightning as well as stopping the aircraft deteriorating thereby keeping these historic aircraft serviceable and available for you, the public, to enjoy.


If you have the time, then please attend one of the Open Days. If you wish to make a donation any amount however small will be welcome. Donations of £50 or greater will ensure that your name is permanently displayed on the QRA sheds alongside for example the likes of:-
